On Wednesday 7th November Derby Mountain Rescue Team was joined by National Trust Park Rangers as we held a joint training exercise at Dovedale.
The scenario saw the team being called to Dovedale after a NT Ranger working on woodland management had a chainsaw accident. The report was that the exercise casualty had injured his leg with a chainsaw, and had been given immediate first aid by a colleague, but now needed assistance with an evacuation and further medical treatment.
An advance party was sent to locate the casualty along with other National Trust Rangers, he was found along the riverside and up a steep incline. The team demonstrated our casualty care, and lowered the NT Ranger on our stretcher down to the river path. He was carried out to the pasture to meet a fictitious air ambulance.
The session was a great opportunity to understand each others procedures, a chance to demonstrate how the team works and to find out how we can support each other in the future.
